Tickets may be purchased at the door. \nJoin us for two dynamic Swing dance workshops! \nThe Charleston\n5 – 6:20pm\nThe Charleston is a dance that originated in the Carolinas in the 1920. It comes out of the dance form known as Juba but was danced to the jazz and popular music of the time. It serves as one of the predecessor dances to the Lindy Hop and was integrated into that later dance with some stylistic changes to make it more compatible. In our first workshop we will go over the basics of original Charleston\, and then show how the movement can be used in the Lindy Hop. \nBalboa\n6:30 – 8pm\nBalboa is another Lindy Hop adjacent dance. It developed in the ballrooms of Southern California in the 1930s. It was danced in places that specifically banned the breakaway movements of Lindy\, so it was natural that it would be a dance that took up much less space on the dance floor. Although it was danced to the same swing era music as Lindy\, the connection is typically inward focused and features tight and fast footwork and subtle weight changes. Our second workshop will cover Balboa’s two “basic” steps and some movements that utilize those steps. \nStay afterwards and practice your moves from 8 until 11pm! \nCharleston: 5-6:20pm\nBalboa: 6:30-8pm\nSocial dance: 8pm-11pm \n$40 for both workshops\n$25 for one workshop\nSocial included with workshop(s) \n$10 social only \n

We will teach you a collection of principles for partnering (“leading” and “following”) in any dance style that will revolutionize your dance abilities. We will also provide examples from numerous dance styles along with practice exercises. These principles can and will permanently improve the way you dance with a partner no matter the steps nor the dance nor the partner nor your level.
