Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions, answered. Your dance journey, supported.
What types of adult dance classes do you offer?
CrossBody Dance + Movement specializes in adult Latin dance classes in Pittsburgh, including Salsa On1, Salsa On2, Bachata, ChaCha, Hustle, as well as Kizomba and Rueda dance classes. We also offer beginner foundations, latin dance technique classes, bootcamps, private lessons, and ongoing social dance events.
Do I need a partner for Salsa or Bachata classes?
No partner is ever required. We rotate throughout class so you learn properly and meet new people. Most students come alone — rotating partners actually helps you improve much faster.
I’m a complete beginner. Which class should I start with?
We recommend starting with either our Free Intro Salsa or Bachata Class or a Beginner Bootcamp. Both are designed for students with zero experience and provide a friendly, confidence-building introduction to Latin dance.
What should I wear to class?
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that stay secure on your feet. Avoid rubber soles that stick to a smooth surface floor. As long as your foot can pivot freely, you're good. Dance shoes or heels are welcome but not necessary — you can start with what you have.
What is the difference between Salsa On1 and Salsa On2?
Salsa On1 (LA Style):
• Breaks on the “1” count
• Energetic and beginner-friendly
Salsa On2 (NY Style):
• Breaks on the “2”
• Smooth and musicality-focused
Beginners in Pittsburgh usually start with Salsa On1, and this is what our weekly salsa classes focus on currently. We periodically offer workshops focusing On2, and offer private instruction On2 as well.
What is Bachata, and how do Bachata classes work at CrossBody?
Bachata is a style of dance that's also commonly played at salsa dance socials in Pittsburgh. Our Bachata program blends traditional, modern, and urban styles while focusing on connection, technique, musicality, and body movement. We offer beginner through advanced Bachata classes so you can progress at your own pace. Learning Bachata at the same time as Salsa is common and encouraged.
Where are you located?
CrossBody Dance + Movement has two covenient Pittsburgh dance studio locations, Downtown Pittsburgh and Squirrel Hill.
Both offer Salsa, Bachata, and Latin dance lessons, private instruction, socials, and teams for adults.
How do I sign up for classes?
Registration information is available online through our Classes & Schedule page, and depends on what classes you're looking to take. You can also drop-in and pay for individual classes at the door.
Do you offer private lessons?

• Build fundamentals
• Level up more quickly
• Prepare for social dancing

These are great opportunities to practice Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, and more, and build confidence, and connect with Pittsburgh’s Latin dance community.
Can I take classes if I’ve never danced before?
Absolutely. Many of our students begin with no dance experience at all. Our instructors specialize in teaching beginners and breaking movements down clearly and encouragingly.
What ages do you teach?
CrossBody focuses on adult dance classes in Pittsburgh, typically ages 18+. Inquire with questions, as we occasionally allow teens to attend our adult classes.
Do you offer choreography or performance teams?
Yes — we offer seasonal performance teams in Salsa, Bachata, and Heels. Some require auditions, while others are open enrollment.
